Another Parent to Non-Parent Discussion

A friend of mine recently complained about his friends with kids saying "It is really annoying how parents always think that THEIR kid is the greatest gift to humanity..."

"Sure, but aren't you terrified of the parents who DON'T see their kids that way?"

First visit to your blog so all I know about you is a) you're smart as a whip and b) you've got a mouth like a sailor. Oops, there I go again, believing every thing I read.

As annoying as my boys can be at times, and they have "annoying" down to an art, I see their potential every day. In the way they treat their friends and those who are less fortunate then they are. My oldest would spend his last dollar buying a snack for a friend whose parents hadn't given him money, while my youngest hoards his money like scrooge, but has been watching the history channel since he was 5.

We have to believe our children are the greatest gift, because they are the future. If we don't believe it, they sure won't.

Never had a kid. Never will. But I can relate just a little bit. It's like my wall clock. Most people view it as a nice pendulum wall clock. But I made that clock myself, so to me it's a hell of a lot cooler. Some people are impressed by the fact that I made a clock, some aren't. I try not to get offended.

Then again, to make a clock requires more skills than what one is naturally gifted with.

Not exactly sure what you meant by that last remark, to HAVE a child is one thing- to raise him/her well takes skill. Very rarely are those skills you were born with.
